Dental Plaque

Dental plaque is the main cause of gum disease (gingivitis) and periodontitis.

Dental plaque is a sticky film of bacteria that forms on teeth and gums. When it is allowed to remain for too long, it turns into a hard substance called tartar (or calculus). Tartar should only be removed by your dentist.

Removal of dental plaque is based on good daily oral hygiene: brushing with an antiseptic toothpaste (like Elgydium anti-plaque) and flossing. Find out how to floss.
